Not the most exciting topic but that is why I am here… my camera is full of garbage – not the typical content you’d find on your memory card. BBC published a horrific photo article today that describes the situation in India around waste management and drainage, so I am going to let you make your own judgement. Allahabad may not that bad but honestly, I haven’t gotten close enough to the drainage….. but I am sure it is not far off. I am going to let you digest it for a few days and then I will talk about the visit to the sewage and garbage processing plants – where my essential oils and masks came very handy. Not the typical tours you’d do – but this problem is best characterized visually because nothing prepares you for the sights !
Birds, but usually cows, buffalos, dogs and pigs all feed on trash
Open dumping of trash on the streets – everywhere
Easiest way to shrink the trash? Burn it…
Noone owns it, noone collects it
Can’t avoid trash absolutely everywhere
The animals are actually a huge part of the ecosystem, they eat a lot of the organic waste and depend on it – but they also spread it all over once you finally collected it! Pigs, buffaloes, dogs, cows…
The holy bank of Ganges is very impacted by this..
Bins are there but either not used, or overflowing or stolen
